Keds - The original & still the best Sneaker

The original name selected for the brand was 'Peds', from the Latin word meaning "foot", but as that name had already been trademarked, the name 'Keds' was selected. Keds were first mass-marketed as canvas-top "sneakers" around 1916. They became known as "sneakers" due to the fact that the rubber soles allowed the wearer to sneak around unheard.

The United States Rubber Company (UNIROYAL), the tire(tyre) manufacturer, is the company originally behind Keds shoes. The original style was called "the Champion" and it has remained a style icon for over ninety years.

Over the years, many celebrities have worn the Keds brand. From style icons such as Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe and Jackie Onasis, to Erin Moran in "Happy Days", Jennifer Grey in "Dirty Dancing", and the lead female character in the recently popular "Twilight" series of vampire movies.
