Cloud 10's Think Tank (SOUND OFF): The Secret Magic Johnson Has Been Holding Onto..

HIV is cured!!! -does the Brother Franklin and hands out HIV Awareness ribbons-  I know I am very late with this post but it is so refreshing to hear this news.  I have always suspected that the powers that be (governments and more specifically pharmaceutical manufacturers) have been holding on to a cure for HIV for a long time.  HIV has long been a manageable disease that could prolong a person's life for decades if they keep up with the hundreds of dollars they are required to spend monthly on the medication.  Herein, lies the problem, the treatment of diseases is itself a predicament of epic proportions.  It reminds me of this story developed by Lawrence Kohlberg in terms of his 'Stages of Moral Development' theory.  SN We actually learned about this in my Senior Sociological and Rational Causes of Conflict.. -adjusts glasses-

A woman was near death from a special kind of cancer. There was one drug that the doctors thought  might save her. It was a form of radium that a druggist in the same town had recently discovered. The drug was expensive to make, but the druggist was charging ten times what the drug cost him to produce. He paid $200 for the radium and charged $2,000 for a small dose of the drug. The sick woman's husband, Heinz, went to everyone he knew to borrow the money, but he could only get together about $ 1,000, which is half of what it cost. He told the druggist that his wife was dying and asked him to sell it cheaper or let him pay later. But the druggist said, "No, I discovered the drug and I'm going to make money from it." So Heinz got desperate and broke into the man's store to steal the drug for his wife. Should Heinz have broken into the laboratory to steal the drug for his wife? Why or why not? -Kohlberg-

This story is indicative of the pharmaceutical industry; a billion dollar empire in which the patients are strung along so that there is a dependence for life itself in order to keep the need alive for their products.  Morals come into play in so many layered forms in the story above.  Should capitalism and individualism trump collectivism and socialism?  Should we ignore the pharmacists hard work and allow the man to walk away scott free? This the John Q phenomenon in which the ordinary proletariat man takes on the capital machine with guns blazing.  What decisions should be made to benefit one over the group and how should they be distributed?

What would you have done if you were the man trying to save his wife?  In terms of HIV and its cure, its a disease only those in the upper crust of society can afford to have and even be cured of...Magic Johnson anyone?  Not to say that Magic is cured but he looks awesome for someone who got diagnosed (along with his wife) over 20 years ago.  I'm not a conspiracy theorist, just a hardened realist that calls it like I see it.  The fact that, the most expensive diseases to treat are the ones that have taken the longest for researchers around the globe to discover a cure to, is very suspicious to me.  One can not help to see a connection to capitalism and Marxism in how drugs are developed to not cure but manage in most cases.  We're very industrious and smart people and its just very strange to see how we've been duped for so many years with so many incurable diseases.  This story highlights the need for more pressure to be put on to researchers who are often able to spew some cleverly crafted statistics and hoodwink us into years of financial hardships.
