Allow me to introduce you to fusion music's latest prodigy! This self-professed child of elcectronic, hip hop, R&B, pop and alternative has seamlessly found a way to weave these genres together seamlessly to create musical euphoria!
Frank Ocean is a member of the Hip Hop collective Odd Future but its his newest mixtape (for FREE.99 btw looks at Lil Kim) Nostalgia, Ultra is rotating heavy on the iPods and PC's of people who are slowly taking notice of this guy!
The music industry has also taken heed and finally given this man a vessel to provide his music to the masses. He has signed a deal with Island Def Jam and we should be gearing up for an LP soon! I won't lie I was never familiar with the 23 year old, New Orleans native nor his work with Odd Future but I am listening now for real! I'm downloading this mixtape as soon as I get home.
On Nostalgia, Ultra we get a nice collection of tracks that overall provides for a harmonious listening experience. Frank Ocean's painful lament on There Will Be Tears is reminiscent of Will Smith's endearing request for a father's presence in his life. In Songs for Women, Frank playfully grooves over the beat as he makes his love of women known. In Strawberry Swing, Frank slows it down to recall the times he spent with a lost love. Finally, on Novacane, Frank picks the beat back up and coolly sings over a beat while paying tribute to the joys of being high with a beautiful woman!
