Respeito (Respect): Vogue Italia's Oil Spill Photographs
You know the old saying, a picture speaks a thousand words? Well these set of images shot by famed photographer Steven Meisel for Vogue Italia hammer the message home as it marries the idea of fashion and the impact of the BP oil spill on not only the southern American coastline but the world. I have to give all props and respect to provocative, haunting images like this one; that not only achieve the magazine's message of fashion forward photography but also reminds BP about the impact of its careless endeavors on the rest of the world.
The series entitled 'Water and Oil' features Kristen McMemany's oil clad body is strewn lifelessly across a beach. Clearly the environmental impact on the ecosystem is what we're supposed to take away here as in several images Kristen is either coughing up water or has a feather perched precariously in her lips. The oil has been plugged but the impact on the environment remains to be seen. A special round of applause to the team over at Vogue for tackling this issue and for refusing to allow BP to get off the hook for THEIR disaster.
What are your thoughts on the images??
